Getting Ready For New Puppy

Notice the stop on both sides of the ring – this prevents choking your dog and allows for easily changing the size as your puppy grows. Do not buy a slip lead without the stops!

Start with a good quality dry kibble that names its meat source (chicken, beef, lamb, etc.) and has as few fillers as possible – soybean can be toublesome as well so stay away from that if you can.  We use Inukshuk Chicken 26/16 All Life Stages and have used Pro Plan Puppy food (chicken and rice).  It’s important when the puppy is under a year old to give them ample nutrients specifically for puppies, and not to get the calcium and phosphorus out of balance as their bones are growing. So puppy kibble is fed as the basic nutrition and then supplements on top of that.

Then we add to the kibble to improve nutrients and digestibility. Probiotics Max and Ultimate Vitamin from Natures Farmacy are great additions. The probiotics breaks down the carbs in the kibble and should be fed with each meal. We use G and C Raw Dog Food (a ground up meat source, either chicken or beef) adding about 10% to the kibble. This is the base for all of our dogs and puppies and mothers and fathers. From time to time, we add raw eggs, spirulina powder, plain sardines in water, raw beef liver, and/or small amounts of coconut oil.
